Sunday 27th November, 2011

A nothing much to show for it week. I’ve had three days out of five off work and spent most of it getting the house in order so that the guest instructor for the Saturday fencing session didn’t feel the need to call out environmental health when they stayed over on Friday night. (My fencing club: SSS Sheffield [External Link], Mark Hillyard’s (Academie Gloriana) can be found through the BFHS site [External Link]). Now I’ve spent several hours of Saturday waving a couple of metres of plastic pipe around (waster) – and a few minutes waving a Zweihänder (swords like this: [External Link]) and a claidheamh dà làimh (swords like this: [External Link]) to see what it feels like with the real thing – my shoulders ache. It will be worse tomorrow.

This week has also marked the passing of Anne McCaffrey [External Link]. I’m not entirely sure what to say about that other than it’s worth reading some of her stuff. She inspired a lot of people, including me.
