Giveaway: The House-Moving Giveaway

As you may or may not know, I’m in the process of moving. And I have a number of books. In order to make life a little bit easier, I’m having a cull of books I probably won’t read again. This may bite me in the butt if / when I change my mind, but so be it.

However, on to the giveaway!

In order to make a little bit more room, I have a number of my own books (you know, ones I’ve written [External Link]) to rehome. To this end, I’m giving away one copy of European Monsters and four sets of the Elkie books so far. If you want them defaced with a signature and a message of thanks for rehoming, this can be arranged.

Because of financial constraints, this is only open to people who have a postal address in the UK, the EU and / or the EEA – or Switzerland – otherwise the cost of posting gets a bit out of hand.

European Monsters Details

European Monsters came out in paperback in 2014 from Fox Spirit Books [External Link]. I’ll be giving away one copy (paperback) in this giveaway but, if you don’t win it, please do consider looking it up on your local version of Amazon or following the links on the Fox Spirit Books website. More monsters need rehoming!

So, this is a lovely and unusual wee beastie designed to sit on your coffee table. It will need its short stories rifled through and its internal illustrations admired on a regular basis in order to remain healthy.

Elkie Bernstein Details

Elkie Bernstein is an act of trilogy, also published by Fox Spirit Books, with the third book due out next year. The first in the series was published last year (25 Ways To Kill A Werewolf) and the second this year (A Pack Of Lies). I have four sets of these (also paperback) to rehome. Again, if you don’t win a set, the best way to get hold of copies is to look it up on your local version of Amazon or to follow the links on the Fox Spirit Books website.

The wet-dog smell of werewolves coming in from the British Winter…

The Elkie books are capable of being separated but have a tendency to gang up and demand attention. They have a certain bite for the unwary and shed werewolf hair all over the furniture but the overall experience will be rewarding.

How This Will Work

Moving fills me with nerves because, although I enjoy achieving change, I find going through it rather stressful. (Yes, I know everyone does, but everyone else doesn’t necessarily end up spending their evenings flapping their hands in order to calm down…) Amongst other things, I start seeing the good things about the place I am now. So, compare notes with me. Tell me something good and something bad about the place you live!

(You don’t actually have to tell me where you live, just something you like about it and something you don’t.)

Technically, this will be two giveaways – one for European Monsters and one for Elkie Bernstein – and you enter by posting a comment, and saying which draw(s) you want to be entered for. It is possible to enter for both but you can only have one entry for each draw per person. Post your entry below by 23:59 (GMT) on Friday 6th November, 2015. Or before midnight on Saturday 7th November, 2015, depending on how you prefer to express it.

Conversation is allowed, of course, and it’s okay to discuss, approve, prove or dispute – as long as you bring your manners, otherwise I’ll be discounting your entry for being mean.

I will edit comments to put count numbers on posts – e.g. [M1] for a European Monsters entry and [B1] for an Elkie entry – so that everyone can see clearly which number they have been assigned. If a comment’s eligibility changes, I’ll put in a (replying) comment to explain why that happened.

On Saturday 7th November, I will put the total number of eligible comments into an online random number generator (this one: [External Link]) and generate five numbers – one for each book or set that needs rehoming. The posts that correspond to those numbers will be the winners. I will announce the winners in another post and get in touch with the winners through the details you provide to leave a comment.

To repeat the boring stuff again, remember:

  • Entry to the giveaway runs from October 20th until November 6th with the winner to be announced November 7th.
  • Only people with a postal address in the UK, the EU and / or the EEA – or Switzerland – may enter. If it turns out you don’t have one of these if / when I contact you, I’ll redo that draw.
  • One eligible comment per person – it’s okay to get into debate with the other posters but only one post will be counted. Comment numbering will reflect this.
  • Discourteous behaviour will get the eligibility of your comment withdrawn. Comment numbering will reflect this.

I have planned to buy your books, so I am happy to pay postage. If you can give them to Sam (if I win) maybe I can have her ship them or I will pick them up next year. Otherwise, I’ll search online. I hear your books are worth reading so I’m willing to invest 🙂 go Jo! Safe move and hope you enjoy your new place! Take care of you and yours!! xo

Hi, Terri. Thank you. Now was that an entry because you didn’t tell me anything about where you live… 😉

Oops! Yes. Something good about where I live: it’s beautiful here in the fall. Fire colors are everywhere. Trees are lit with reds, yellows and shades of orange. It is stunning and reminds me that change is good.

Something I dislike about where I live: the sun doesn’t shine enough. It can be a very gray place even with our trees lit up with color. The number of gray days outnumber sunny days.

Thanks for the reminder! My best to you in your move!

I love the city I live in due to its history and friendliness of the people. Its known as the greenest city in the Uk and I love the blend of colours from the stone work of the buildings and the trees in the parks that dovetails into and through our lives.

    Go on then…

Something good – the amount of green, the proximity of moorland, the taste of the water

Something bad – the distance from the sea (I grew up on the coast and I miss it)

    I’m going to be specific about the area I’m in rather than the city… so;
Something good – I can be in another county within 200m, which is good for satiating wanderlust! Also it has very specific Viking roots (placename and evidenciary)

Something less good – It could be nearer the sea, and to Scandiwegia! Practically though, it’s a bit scummy!!

I have both Elkies but would be interested in European Monsters.

Good thing about where I live – it’s on the edge of the Peak District so, plenty of fresh air and space.

Bad thing – the noisy little kid next door who screams and shouts at inopportune moments. ????

    • Journeymouse says:

My sympathy on the noisy kid. My neighbours look after their grandchildren a lot, particularly during school holidays. It makes summer… difficult due to the dogs uffing at everything the kids do

  7. Milani Hanson says:

Good thing – I live in the shadow of a beautiful castle made famous by Sir Walter Scott in his book Ivanhoe. And I love it!
Bad thing – No one else seems to care about the castle, it might as well not be here 🙁
