Sunday 14th September, 2014

I’ve been saying this a lot, lately, and I’m going to continue to mention it: I’ve had a book published by the name of 25 Ways To Kill A Werewolf, thanks to the help and support of Fox Spirit Books [External Link]. The linked page will (eventually) get you to the UK Amazon but most other “local” Amazon sites should also carry it. If you’re feeling like a giveaway, I have two paperback copies available for “Europe” (UK, EU, EEA, Switzerland – otherwise things get expensive) for the price of a comment on the website by the end of Tuesday 16th September.

However you get hold of your copy, I’d appreciate some more reviews – on Amazon or the Goodreads page [External Link] or the Booklikes page [External Link] – or anywhere else that does liking books! (And if you think of anywhere I should be boasting spreading the news about my book-baby, let me know in the comments.)

Having had a look at Booklikes, I think I could enjoy using it for blogging purposes, rather than just using this site. What I had in mind was posting quotes from whatever I have written or editted in a given day (these wouldn’t be daily as real life intervenes between me and my writing schedule) and maybe quotes from books I’ve been reading that strike me as interesting. Think you’d like that?

In the Sunday Story reminder: last week’s Sunday Story was Second Date and this Sunday’s is … I forgot to mentione it earlier on Twitter, so I’ll give you a week off. Or you can go enjoy Second Date again.

Final thing I want to mention: please don’t forget the “Accessing The Future” anthology [External Link] being crowdfunded by The Future Fire [External Link]. They have a couple of days left to go and every penny helps! And they’re now in a position to pay their contributors pro-rates.

In case you hadn’t noticed, I had a book published by the name of 25 Ways To Kill A Werewolf. The linked page will get you to the UK Amazon but most other “local” Amazon sites should also carry it. In related news, I’m officially a third of the way through Fool if you Think It’s Over (1st draft, projected length) and updated the Fur-Skins page to reflect the new tag.

Finally, the Sunday Story reminder. Last week’s Sunday Story was Shelter From the Storm and this Sunday’s is Second Date – which is part of the Fur-Skins world, so loosely connected to 25 Ways To Kill A Werewolf. (It’s a Werewolf Week!)

Final thing I want to mention: please don’t forget the “Accessing The Future” anthology [External Link] being crowdfunded by The Future Fire [External Link]. This time the team will be focussing on dis/ability and I look forward to receiving my funder copy!

Sunday 31st August 2014

The important (to me) plug first: 25 Ways To Kill A Werewolf is available in paperback from Amazon. The link on the “published” page is for the UK site. I know the US and German sites carry it, and I suppose other countries do, too, but if there’s issues, get in touch and we may be able to sort something out.

Word of mouth comments in my general direction are positive but so far I only have one review (on Amazon.com here: [External Link]) – so if you’ve read it and feel like spreading the word, more noise on your country specific Amazon or on Goodreads [External Link] would be much appreciated. I’m also quite happy to receive comments on the website!

(Obviously, I am attention-seeking, needy and with a desire to boast about how my book-baby is doing.)

I’m going to start a paperback giveaway on Wednesday – I haven’t decided the nature of comment required but it will basically be the same format as the ebook and Amok giveaways done before. Due to postage costs, I’ll be restricting it to “Europe”, otherwise it gets expensive – but I’ll be giving away two copies, though, and will deface it as you wish.

In related news, I’ve finally settled on a working title for the next step in Elkie’s life that works for me – Fool if you Think It’s Over (see what I did there?). I’ve created a tag for it and will a) start talking about it a bit more and b) start updating pages accordingly, maybe even create a post.

Please don’t forget the “Accessing The Future” anthology [External Link] being crowdfunded by The Future Fire [External Link]. This time the team will be focussing on dis/ability. I hope this anthology launches well and look forward to receiving my funder copy!

Finally, the Sunday Story reminder. Last week’s Sunday Story was Going Home and this Sunday’s is Shelter From the Storm. I actually did a background piece that relates to both of them, too, back in 2011. You can find that here.

Sunday 24th August, 2014

The important (to me) plug first: 25 Ways To Kill A Werewolf is available in paperback from Amazon.co.uk. If you can’t use the .co.uk site, we may be able to find a work-around, so get in touch.

Preliminary responses from the extended friends and family group suggests that I am now responsible for a number of late dinners. I’m not sure how I managed that as I’m only cooking for one these days!

The ebook giveaway closed on Wednesday with Valeria Vitale declared the winner by random number generator – you can have a look at the entries here. I intend to do a paperback version the first week of September, probably running for a bit longer, so keep an eye out for that.

Don’t forget the “Accessing The Future” anthology [External Link] being crowdfunded by The Future Fire [External Link]. This time the team will be focussing on dis/ability.

Finally, the Sunday Story reminder. Last week’s Sunday Story was On Angel’s Wings and this Sunday’s was Going Home.

Monday 18th August, 2014

Let’s start off today’s update with the thing that’s most important to me. My bookbaby was born last week! 25 Ways To Kill A Werewolf is now in paperback from Amazon.co.uk. If you can’t use the .co.uk site, we may be able to find a work-around, so get in touch.

And there’s a giveaway of an ebook here, too – with just one day left to enter, as I shall be closing it midnight Tuesday / Wednesday to announce the winner on Wednesday. So far, It looks like Marc’s goign to win. Don’t let him get it so easily!

Don’t forget the “Accessing The Future” anthology [External Link] being crowdfunded by The Future Fire [External Link]. This time the team will be focussing on dis/ability and taking part in the awareness raising has been raising my own awareness, resulting in this little action plan right here: Accessing The Future: A Personal Action Plan.

Finally, the Sunday Story reminder. Last week’s Sunday Story was Sanctuary and this Sunday’s was On Angel’s Wings.

Accessing The Future: A Personal Action Plan

So, we’ve established that starting the “Accessing The Future Fiction” blog hop got me thinking. In the context of the science fiction anthology that kicked this all off, it’s about writing futures that make room for the different people that are part of our world. For all of my fictional worlds, though, it’s about making dis/ability more obvious.

Inclusivity is something that I ought to work on, … Continue reading

Just a reminder that The Future Fire [External Link] are crowdfunding another science fiction anthology. “Accessing The Future” will focus on dis/ability although there will be intersection with other issues that can cause problems with attaining equality. The Indiegogo campaign can be found here: [External Link].

The week before last, I set off their blog hop (Accessing The Future Fiction, The Journeymouse Edition). Having done so, I realised that I’ve been pretty poor at inclusivity in my fiction – specifically of dis/ability. So, last week, I posted the proof as I did a mini-audit of whether my own fiction was Accessing The Future worthy.

(This week, I shall be posting an action plan of how I can improve. To be taken with a pinch of salt, what with me being sound of body, only somewhat off neurotypical and definitely in a privileged position as white, middle class…)

And another reminder, this time about 25 Ways To Kill A Werewolf – the ebook will be available from August 15th. For the definitive updates, keep an eye on the Fox Spirit Books [External Link] site for announcements and links, although I’ll be updating as soon as I have everything confirmed and the ebook is available.

The opening section of 25 Ways To Kill A Werewolf was put up around here last week and this week there will be a giveaway for a copy of the ebook.

Finally, the Sunday Story reminder. Last week’s Sunday Story was Baba Yaga, first put up back in June 2010 – and this week’s is Sanctuary, which was published in December 2010.

Accessing The Future: The Story Audit

Well, writing my edition of the “Accessing The Future Fiction” blog hop got me thinking. I’m not doing a lot to get dis/ability issues into my fiction (along with considering race, nationality, gender, sexuality, age, etc.) The inclusivity is something that I ought to work on, even if I do it with my usual, privileged, white + British + cis-gendered + heterosexual + able bodied + not … Continue reading

Sunday 3rd August, 2014

Right, at the top of this week’s list of things to tell you:

The friendly folk of The Future Fire [External Link] are crowdfunding another science fiction anthology. This time they will be focusing on dis/ability although there will be intersection with other issues that can cause problems with attaining equality. The anthology will be called “Accessing The Future” and it’s an Indiegogo campaign (here: [External Link]),

If you’re wondering why I’m supporting them, well… It’s an issue that needs looking at. However, I was specifically approached to get involved because I’m a contributor to a previous anthology of theirs (Outlaw Bodies, see right) and they’ve picked up a couple other of my stories, too.

As to how I’m contributing – next pay day I shall be grabbing myself an Indiegogo reward but I’ve also set off their “Accessing The Future Fiction” blog hop. I also agreed to do another blog post but having done the blog hop, I’ve realised how little thought space I’ve given to dis/ability in my fictional worlds and… well, seriously, even if I hadn’t promised another blog post, I’d need to do at least another post while I work out how I need to improve that part of my world building. Expect to see things over the next few weeks as I work through it! (Seeing as blog posts are just my way of thinking aloud, etc, etc.)

In 25 Ways To kill A Werewolf news – the ebook will be available from August 15th. Best to keep an eye on the Fox Spirit Books pages for announcements and links, although I’ll be updating as soon as I have concrete news: [External Link]

(The relevant section of the 25 Ways background posts have been updated to say the 15th.)

I’ve posted the fourth of the 25 Ways to Kill A Werewolf background posts, this time “On Character“. That, along with my Accessing The Future Fiction post, should show just how naively white and middle-class I can be!

On Wednesday, I’ll be posting the opening section of the book – and Fox Spirit are likely to put up the first one or two methods of killing werewolves alongside this. So, again, keep an eye out if you want to have a taste of Elkie. There will also be an ebook giveaway the week after.

I’ve put together an Ink Plan update. For a couple of the anthologies included (Amok and No Monsters Allowed, to the right) I haven’t been able to clarify numbers. If you fancy self-reporting, leave some comments on the post and I’ll add up the numbers for next time.

And, as usual, we end with the Sunday Story reminder. These are all stories that have been published on the site for a while but I figured it was worth reminding you all of their existence. Last week’s Sunday Story was Parthenogenesis – and this week’s is Baba Yaga.

Accessing The Future Fiction, The Journeymouse Edition

The Future Fire [External Link] are crowdfunding another (bound to be excellent) science fiction anthology, this time focussing on the issues that come with disability – and the intersections with other issues such as race, gender, sexuality, class, etc, as our friendly socio-politcal sf magazine are wont to do. There’s a blog about it here: [External Link]

In order to help explain why such an sf discussion is necessary, … Continue reading
