Some more genealogy updates with thank yous and a writing success. OK, it’s just a little one but it’s still a success!

First, my writing news. My second Alex Jones story, Heart’s Desire, has been accepted by Drops of Crimson [External Link] for their October issue, due out on Halloween (that’s 31/10/2009).

And a moment of advance warning: The Drollerie Press [External Link] Little Red Riding Hood anthology, Straying From The Path, should be out in electronic format(s) from Monday 26th October.

In genealogy updates, I have a complete reshuffle of my CHARLESWORTHs page. This is thanks to new information from distantly related Julian WEBSTER. He got in touch and presented his research. This shifted the bulk of what I’d had a the MASON line over to the Black Bull line. There are some seismic shifts here, guys, so really check it against the data you’ve taken from me previously! If nothing else, it’s relegated a couple of lines to the Unconnected section on the page.

Finally, there are also some minor additions of CHARLESWORTH individuals and their dates, thanks to Mike SPENCER and his postings on the DERBYS-Gen list. Ta, Mike!

Sunday 12th April, 2009

Two bits of writing news today. First off, I’ve finally got round to putting my elf stories on-line. Or, at least, I’ve put the first of the three up. Faith is about 7 000 words or 31 pages long, so you may want to print it out if you don’t like reading from a screen. Hope will be up next week. (Poor you!)

Secondly, I’ve had the opportunity to read through a proof / draft of Straying From the Path (the anthology from Drollerie Press [External Link] that contains my story The Big, Bad Wolf). I don’t have a firm date, but I think we can expect it very soon.

Sunday 22nd February, 2009

Not a lot to report this week, but I guess I ought to give you a quick run-down of the various writing projects. So:

The Big, Bad Wolf / Straying From the Path is still missing in action (and removed from the Soon to be Published list). Hopefully, I’ll be able to let you know a definite publication date soon.

No news on submitted projects. No news is good news, with luck!

Iron Hand is more-or-less on hold while I consider what to do with the “prequel” White Heart. I’m wondering if, once White Heart has had a bit more care, I should leave the rest of the trilogy until I’ve re-homed or got some advice. They’re intended to be fairly complete in themselves, so it’s not like my characters are in limbo or the story half-told.

City of Dreams is limping along, mainly due to the distractions of real life. I’m about 7 chapters through what will probably be a 15 chapter novella. I hope to get chapter 8 written today. Not as hard as it sounds as the chapters are all about 2,000 words. But what am I going to do with it when I’ve finished it? Can anyone recommend a good home for an (about) 30,000 word story?

And two new projects that will eventually find their way onto the Available from this Site list have insisted on being started this week: Friday Night / Saturday Morning and Simulacrum as they are currently known.

Sunday 18th January, 2009

There have been some minor genealogy additions and changes to both the CHARLESWORTH and TABERNER pages. In case you’re wondering, I haven’t used the 1911 census [External Link], yet. Not all of the areas I’m interested in are up at the moment. Exploration – or the consideration, thereof – will wait until I can see my Welsh rellies…

I have an expected publication date for Straying from the Path anthology from Drollerie Press [External Link] (which contains The Big, Bad, Wolf) of February 2009.

I came across a rather cute photo of Finn I’d forgotten I had, the other day. It’s now on his page. He’s grown a lot since then.

Oh, and the Contact Me page is Up and running again.

Sunday 16th November, 2008

Okay. From the top.

As of December 14th, I shall be redundant. Or, more precisely, my role as Environmental Officer with Waste Recycling Group [External Link] will be. This is due to company restructuring. Exactly what is going to happen after that with respect to me is still being worked on. More news as and when I have it!

Still no news on the Drollerie Press [External Link] anthology listed below (that will hold The Big, Bad Wolf). The contracts have been signed with the Hub Magazine [External Link] for Obsession, but no publishing dates have been mentioned – these things take time!

But site-wise, very little to tell you. Usual updates and that’s it!

Sunday 7th September, 2008

I owe you an apology. Drollerie Press [External Link] is suffering from a high workload at the moment and the release of Straying from the Path, which holds The Big, Bad Wolf, has been delayed. More news as soon as I have it.

And other than that, I’ve been having another busy work week. It’s a cop out, I know, but it happens to be true. I’m lucky to have such an involving, interesting (time-consuming) job. It’s a shame I have other interests as well!

Sunday 31st August, 2008

Okay, we’ll start with the basics. Last week’s diary comment has been moved to the archive and the draft status of several stories on my projects page has been updated. However, there are a few more interesting changes to the latter that I would like to draw your attention to.

Fan fare, please! I’ve started putting electronic pen to paper for Iron Hand, the second book in the Hound of Kern Trilogy. Yes, it’s a bit presumptuous starting on Book 2 when I haven’t even got White Heart ready for rehoming. And yes, there are elves and dwarves in these books, so it’s going to be hard to rehome them. I have the urge to try, though, so I’ll keep going.

More importantly, from the public consumption point of view, both The Big, Bad Wolf and Half-Breed are now available. The links are below in the published list, on the same list on my Writing Home Page and on my projects page. (Nothing like self advertising!) But the important information is this:

  • The Twisted Tongue [External Link] issue that holds Half-Breed is available for free.
  • The e-book, Straying from the Path, from Drollerie Press [External Link] that holds The Big, Bad Wolf is not. It is, however, reasonably priced and comes packed with variations on the Little Red Riding Hood theme!

If you read either of these publications, please let me (and the publishers) know what you think.

And my final piece of writing news: Obsession has been accepted by the Hub Magazine [External Link]. I will let you know more as soon as a publishing date has been scheduled!

Sunday 27th July, 2008

Just the usual changes to the Diary and Projects this week.

For those of you a little more interested in what I’m actually doing that brought on the project updates, I’ve had Hope crittered, had a round of redrafting The Elvish Virtues as a whole and submitted Charity for Crittering. So far, it looks as if I’ll be attempting to rehome / inflict on an unsuspecting public some time in September. The related White Heart has officially begun its read-through prior to redrafting. To be completed… whenever.

And the upcoming Little Red Riding Hood anthology to be published by Drollerie Press [External Link] has been titled Straying from the Path. I’m looking forward to seeing my story and the others that have been selected!

No other news. Sorry. I shall try to be more interesting next week.

Sunday 27th April, 2008

First off, I made a few mistakes with uploading my TABERNER files last week. My apologies for the error (and any wildgoose chases I may have caused), but it is now fixed.

Secondly, having been away for work this week – and Finn got a trip to Posh Pets again – I haven’t had time to do any updates to my genealogy records or to the site, so no changes to report beyond:

I’ve rehomed another story! The Big, Bad Wolf has been taken on by Drollerie Press [External Link] for their Little Red Riding Hood anthology. The electronic book should be out about July and if it sells well, there’ll be a hardcopy version from November. The Writing home page and my projects page have both been updated to show this.
