There isn’t really much to say, lately, so I’ve dropped out of weekly updates (bad Jo!), as you may have noticed. The only thing that’s changed from a website point of view since my last post a fortnight ago is the announcement of dates for next year’s FightCamp. It’s unlikely I will be going as August looks like it will be a busy period and I can only afford one thing. I just haven’t decided what thing. And, yes, this does mean I need to get off my rear end and write up some more event links. They should be done for next week.

However, in meatspace, things are a bit more interesting (not that I can share all of it) and I am actually working on some writing. I’ve gone back to something I tried writing in July but couldn’t get to work properly. It was intended to be a minor detour into a short story that wouldn’t take me more than a week or so to draft – and therefore wouldn’t distract me much from A Pack Of Lies – using a couple of ideas I’d had in the back of my head for a while. I’d not been certain when said ideas both occurred to me (one as a result of attending WTF13, one not) what length of story they would support so the short story attempt was both a bit forced and a bit rushed in order not to keep me from my main focus at the time. That version ended up at about 5,000 words but didn’t pass the alpha read through. I’m now having a crack at sorting it out again, and… well, We’ll see. The original draft was a story of three parts. The first part was stripped out and rewritten and has doubled in length. Today I start on the second.

(Also, it’s Remembrance Sunday today, and Armistice Day tomorrow. I shall now maintain a respectful silence for a few minutes.)

So, the SSS Sheffield fencing club [External Link] had Chris CHATFIELD of The 1595 Club [External link] round for the weekend. We did some work based on Saviolo and he seemed to cope quite well with my, well, not coping all that well.

This also meant that the Hellhounds were imprisoned at the local kennels (which they seem to enjoy it more than any prison inmate should) and I took Friday and today off work, to get some chores done and generally relax from two days of training.

A Pack Of Lies slowed down and I’ve only edged up to 25,000 words – about 4,000 since last weekend. Although I have been working on some blog posts – one of which is published here: Journeymouse’s Grand Unified Theory of Life (Draft 0). The others are Elkie / 25 Ways To Kill A Werewolf related and need a bit of polishing before I post them.

Other posts to mention: I’ve finally put up a couple of links for Fechtschule York 2013 and FightCamp 2013 in August. Both have been advertised for a while and FightCamp particularly fills up fast. In fact, I’m not sure if any space remains at FightCamp but it’s worth following through the links and getting in touch with organisers.
