The three week silence is broken.

Not that I wasn’t around. I’ve even been talking to people on Facebook [External Link], Google+ [External Link] and Twitter [External Link]. As well as in real life. Well, I think I’ve been talking to people. I have vague memories of working during the week.

About a fortnight ago was my dad’s birthday and my present was tickets for “Twelfth Night” as performed by Illyria [External Link] at Nostell Priory [External Link], yesterday. This was the third time we’ve been to watch an Illyria production (Three Musketeers in 2009, Pride and Prejudice in 2010) and we enjoyed it again but they didn’t half rattle through Shakespeare! Not one to do unless you’re already familiar with the language, we decided.

The new shared SSS website: [External Link], has the SSSSheffield information up, so – if you’re interested and in the area – let us know!

The suggestion of my own site redesign is still sitting in the back of my head. I’m reluctant to take on any major work for a while but I might slot it in between big writing projects. I’m still tapping away at Part I of The Three Guineveres, my current big project. I’ve got through battle nine of the sequence of twelve and there are some other story arc bits to throw in and / or correct. Once I have Part I drafted out, I think I’ll ask for some beta readers for it and work on redrafting of 25 Ways to Kill A Werewolf – pending a bit more feedback.

As for short works and minor projects: I haven’t heard back from the Shhh! project and I would have heard Friday if I was invited to the next stage, so that hasn’t worked! Beaumains, the kind of noir thing, went out under its working title – and no news yet. And I’ve been putting together a piece currently titled The Bull of Essylt. Again, anyone who knows their Arthuriana probably knows the inspiration. I’m running into a lot of bits and pieces while doing the background work on The Three Guineveres that doesn’t fit into that version but gives me intriguing ideas.

Sunday 12th September, 2010

Finally back online.

Yeah, so… Took a while to sort out the Internet connection – but now I’m back! The house is working out ok. There were a couple of internal water feature related issues but we’ve got it sorted.

As I was offline, I didn’t get the rest of mum‘s smallholding pieces up by Sunday 29th August. But they are up now. Check out Kids Will Be Kids and Lame Ducks.

“Pride and Prejudice”, as performed by Illyria [External Link] at Nostell Priory [External Link], was pretty good. Very funny and well arranged with a cast of 5. (Yes, 5!)

More next week.

Progress update on the house move, a plug and the repeated plea.

Sorry for not posting last week, I’m a bit distracted by moving stuff. Which extends to the foreseeable future. How do you know when you’ve hit maturity? When you spend hours looking at a very tight budget wondering whether it’s better to:

  • Buy some curtain gliders (probably about a tenner for the number I need) to fit curtains to existing rails that you don’t want.

Or:

  • Buy a new curtain rail that you actually want or a close proximity thereof. Bearing in mind I’m going to be buying them at some point, anyway.

It’s getting rather daft, isn’t it? Yeah, that’s what I thought.

The moving van officially rolls up next Saturday (7th August). The phone-line, of course, won’t be connected in the new place until the following Thursday. Probably. So next weekend definitely will be without update and possibly the week after (Sunday 15th). I will get the rest of mum‘s smallholding pieces up by Sunday 29th August, however.

The plug. You may remember that I took my dad to Nostell Priory [External Link], about this time last year, to see Illyria [External Link] perform “The Three Musketeers”. Well, we’re going again. Tonight we’re off to watch “Pride and Prejudice”, weather willing. I hope it will be as fun as “The Three Musketeers”! And I shall try to remember to comment on the next update.

My plea is a repeat of last update‘s. If you take a wander through the site, you may notice that a few people have been kind enough to comment. But in some places the comment order has got all screwed up. I use the basic (mos)comment component of Mambo 4.6.2 – it all came free with my web-space – and I’m not happy with it. It’s not as interactive as it could be and then it goes and starts screwing up the display. Does anyone know a semi-decent comments set-up that will take the existing comment database? Oh, and tell me how to do it?

Sunday 26th July, 2009

Well, back in the usual spot this weekend, with some news, a minor update and an apology.

Three Musketerrs Badge

Three Musketeers Badge

The news first. If only so the badge photo fits properly 🙂 Last night, my dad and I went to see Illyria [External Link] perform “The Three Musketeers” at Nostell Priory [External Link], as a slightly late birthday present for him. We can both recommend going to see it if the tour takes it anywhere near you!

The minor update is a new addition to the New Dryas world while I work on a new idea. The stand-alone project, City of Dreams, has finally finished first draft. The end was slow work but we got there. It’s now sitting there fermenting before I take a red-pen to it and redraft.

The apology is regarding my THOMAS section. If anyone has been in touch with me regarding getting hands on a better copy, chances is are, I’ve lost the email. I have a couple sent since Wednesday, but nothing else. Also, there will be no hard copies sent out. I don’t have ready access to a working printer, so I can’t do that any more. If you have problems with the images on site, I recommend copying them and trying to zoom in. If you find that you loose all detail before you can decipher the typewriter text, then please Contact Me and ask nicely for a set of larger images. These will be about twice the size. I’ll email the front cover and you need to then reply so I know that you got it. Then I’ll send the rest one email at a time.
